6 Tips for Wedding videos

Your wedding videos will provide you with a lifetime of memories, which can be a great thing or a not-so-great thing, depending on how well your videos turn out. To avoid post-wedding day surprises, here is a quick review of some tips for wedding videos you can take to ensure your wedding day videos are worth viewing again and again and again:

View lots of samples before choosing a videographer. Just like a photographer, a videographer can have his or her own unique approach to wedding videos, which may or may not be to your liking. Reviewing plenty of samples ahead of time ensures your own style will be reflected in the final product.

Check out sites like YouTube and Vimeo for examples of wedding videos and make a list of what you like and, just as importantly, what you don’t like. Then discuss the list with your videographer to be sure you’re on the same page.

If you like your photographer, consider using them for video services as well. Booking a package deal can save you some money – but you should still look at samples to ensure the quality of the videos is up to par.

If your photographer doesn’t offer videography services, ask for a referral. Most wedding photographers have worked side-by-side with videographers in the past, so they can be a good source of quality leads.

Review the contract and take note of details like how long your videographer will be at your event, how many videographers will be shooting footage, the specific products your package includes, and cancellation policies and fees.

Look beyond the wedding day. Many videographers will also provide save-the-date videos you can post on your wedding website. Save-the-date videos require planning in advance, so book early.

Most importantly, hire someone in whom you have confidence, then avoid the compulsion to micromanage. Hiring a skilled videographer means your wedding video is in good hands so you have one less thing to worry about on your wedding day.
